Reflections

The narrative that runs through my days shadows my past and clouds my tomorrow is a story woven so deeply within my psyche that I can no longer separate truth from fiction. The tension from both the outer and the inner so great, so difficult to contain that the struggle must be forfeited; yet it is not and has not. It remains as friction that rubs itself into every waking moment, and when sleep embraces consciousness, questions live as unanswered dreams. I am drummer girl.

Home

A small island in the Cyclades is my home. This is a place where the soul can flourish, and nature presents itself in the extraordinary. We have lived this island life for five years. Previously from the Bay Area and Nantucket, Syros blends our past with our present.

Last evening at dinner while visiting Berlin, a guest asked, “What did you do in your life.” The answer: I owned and operated a small business on Nantucket, I was a psychotherapist, the editor of the Journal of Sandplay Therapy, a middle school teacher, and a mother. The common thread being to provide subtle support for the emerging self: employee, client, student, child.

The quest to understand my experience of the numinous has been the inspiration behind the writing of drummer girl.

National Teaching

In the early years of my teaching and consulting practice, I focused on the very kernel of truth as it revealed itself in play.
